ABSTRACT
The term “international relations” denotes a complex of political, economic, social, cultural and various other relations among actors in global
arena. Current globalized world has significantly intensified such relations
and cooperation. Sport events also have a lot of positive aspects for deepening of the cooperation and trust-building in international relations. With
the attention of political leaders turned to important sport events worldwide, a lot of ideas have risen up concerning the link between sport and
politics as well as the role of such events in contemporary international
relations. FIFA World Cup, which took place in South Africa in 2010, is an
example of a positive contribution of sport to cooperation among various
actors, both state and non-state. This paper focuses on the experience from
FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
