ABSTRACT
The IX International Conference on Human Rights was held at Antalya Bilim University in Türkiye, on June 14, 2024. This year’s theme, The Sustainability of Democracy and the Rule of Law, provides a critical platform for engaging with the challenges, complexities, and technological innovations that impact democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in today’s evolving global landscape. In recent years, the concept of sustainable democracy has emerged as an essential paradigm, addressing the pressing need to adapt democratic values and systems to the realities of environmental crises, technological advancements, and rapid social transformations. This conference delves into the pressing questions surrounding democracy’s resilience and adaptability: How can democratic institutions remain robust in the face of environmental, social, and political challenges? What roles can the rule of law play in ensuring that sustainable development objectives are met while safeguarding human rights and freedoms? And, importantly, how can democratic systems evolve to reflect diverse global perspectives while maintaining a commitment to social equity and justice?Through a robust agenda that features plenary sessions, expert panels, and a diverse array of presentations, meaningful discourse on these topics were generated. Sessions include discussions on sustainable governance, human rights in digital spaces, democracy’s role in environmental protection, and the future of democratic participation. Distinguished speakers addresses an array of sub-themes, such as the ethical implications of AI, sustainable development and economic policies, the intersection of governance with consumer confidence, and the rights of marginalized communities. In addition to these expert discussions, the poster session provides a platform for emerging scholars and practitioners to share research that spans topics from neurological rights to the socio-legal dimensions of public law, public health and digital privacy. Together, these presentations underscore many ways that democracy and the rule of law are intrinsically connected to sustainable development, offering diverse approaches to addressing global challenges in a responsible, ethical, and forward-thinking manner.
