The subject of this article is the use of solutions such as video surveillance to improve the broad sense of security while respecting the human and citizen’s rights and freedoms. The public safety in the country and the world is facing a number of serious threats. There are: the electronic crime, the terrorism, the cyberterrorism, the corruption, the organized crime in criminal and economic form and the drug-related crime. Fighting them poses new challenges to the law enforcement agencies, both in terms of preventing such phenomena and combating them. The effectiveness of the institutions responsible for security increasingly depends on the use of modern solutions, including technology, in their work. The article indicated the legal regulations governing the issue of monitoring and the objectives and solutions identified in the assumptions for the draft of Act on the video surveillance.
